Influential Women Highlights Mary Joffre: HR Leadership Built On Resilience, Service, & Helping Others Thrive

AUSTIN, TX, UNITED STATES, September 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Nearly Two Decades in HR Have Given Mary a Powerful Perspective on Leadership, Mentorship, and the Importance of Making People Feel Seen, Supported, and Empowered

Austin, Texas – With nearly two decades of experience in human resources, Mary Joffre has built a career defined not simply by professional advancement, but by resilience, mentorship, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others reach their potential. Today, as a Senior Human Resources Partner at Greater Texas Credit Union, Mary brings a people-centered approach to employee relations, leadership development, onboarding, and organizational support, serving as a trusted resource for employees, managers, and teams.

Her path into human resources was not one she initially anticipated. Mary began her professional journey in 2000 at a credit union, starting in a back-office position before progressing into teller roles. At the time, HR was not a field she fully understood or had necessarily envisioned for herself. That changed when a mentor recognized something in Mary that she did not always recognize in herself and encouraged her to pursue human resources.

That encouragement became a defining turning point.

The guidance Mary received helped redirect her career and ultimately led her toward a profession where she could combine leadership, relationship-building, problem-solving, and her genuine desire to help people. Over the years, she continued developing her expertise, earning her HR certification through the University of Texas while pursuing ongoing professional development and leadership training.

Today, Mary sees her role as extending far beyond traditional HR responsibilities. She strives to bridge the gap between employees and human resources, ensuring that people feel heard, supported, respected, and valued.

For Mary, effective leadership begins with people.

Her leadership philosophy is rooted in servant leadership, an approach she learned through one of the most influential mentors in her life, Kasha Bartholomew. Rather than viewing leadership as a position of authority, Mary believes in walking alongside others, building trust through consistency, and helping people discover capabilities they may not yet see in themselves.

Kasha’s influence remains one of the most meaningful parts of Mary’s professional story. She encouraged Mary to pursue opportunities even when Mary questioned whether she was ready. Coming from humble beginnings and without a college background at the beginning of her journey, Mary needed someone willing to see her potential and challenge her to pursue it.

Kasha did exactly that.

Her message to Mary was one of belief, perseverance, and faith. She encouraged Mary to keep moving forward, reminding her that fear should never be allowed to dictate the direction of her life or career. Kasha’s mentorship taught Mary that setbacks do not have to define a person. Instead, they can become opportunities to learn, grow, and continue moving forward.

That philosophy has remained with Mary throughout her career.

When Mary received her promotion this year, one of her first calls was to Kasha. Hearing how proud her mentor was became a deeply meaningful moment and a reminder of just how powerful mentorship can be.

Mary’s understanding of leadership was also shaped long before she entered the professional world. She credits her parents with instilling many of the values that continue to guide her today.

Her parents were young parents raising three daughters and a son, and they worked hard to provide for their family. Mary’s father, in particular, became one of her greatest influences. He consistently reminded Mary and her sisters that being women should never limit their dreams or their potential.

He taught them to be independent, hardworking, and self-reliant. He encouraged them to believe they could accomplish anything they set their minds to and emphasized the importance of creating their own lives rather than depending on someone else to do it for them.

But perhaps the most enduring lesson Mary’s parents taught her was the importance of treating every person with dignity, respect, and kindness.

Her father demonstrated that a title does not determine a person’s worth. When he passed away in 2007, people from many different walks of life came to pay their respects. For Mary, witnessing the impact he had made on people reinforced a lesson that continues to influence how she leads today: how a person treats others becomes part of their legacy.

That principle is central to Mary’s work in HR.

She understands that employees bring their entire lives to work. They may be navigating professional challenges, personal hardships, career transitions, or moments of uncertainty. Human resources professionals are often called upon to support people during some of their most difficult and emotionally demanding experiences.

Mary believes those moments require more than policies and procedures. They require empathy.

One of the biggest challenges facing HR today, in her view, is balancing the rapidly changing technological landscape—including the growing influence of artificial intelligence—with the human side of the profession. As organizations adapt to new technologies, HR professionals must continue demonstrating the strategic value of their work while ensuring that employees remain at the center of organizational decision-making.

Mary also recognizes the emotional labor involved in supporting employees through personal and professional crises. At the same time, she sees tremendous opportunity in developing and mentoring the next generation of talent.

For Mary, that opportunity is deeply personal.

She is passionate about mentoring young professionals and women as they navigate their careers. Her goal is not simply to share HR knowledge, but also to pass along the life lessons she received from the people who helped shape her.

The advice she offers young women entering the industry is straightforward: work hard, believe in yourself, and never underestimate the value of your voice.

Mary encourages women to take ownership of their mistakes and learn from them rather than allowing them to become sources of discouragement. Challenges, she believes, can become powerful opportunities for growth when approached with the right mindset.

She also encourages young professionals to remain compassionate, lead with integrity, and stay committed to continuous learning.

Some of the greatest opportunities in Mary’s own career emerged when she stepped outside of her comfort zone. Her experience has taught her that growth often begins when people are willing to try something unfamiliar, take a calculated risk, or accept a challenge before they feel completely prepared.

She believes women should never be afraid to take a seat at the table.

Just as importantly, Mary believes they should bring other women with them.

Supporting and uplifting others is one of the principles that gives her own professional success meaning. She believes success becomes even more valuable when people use their experiences to create opportunities for others to grow.

That perspective is closely connected to Mary’s definition of success.

She attributes much of what she has accomplished to the incredible people who have loved, supported, challenged, and believed in her. Her parents, siblings, mentor, husband, colleagues, and others have each contributed to the person and leader she has become.

Mary shares a particularly strong bond with her siblings, Melissa, Natalie, and Mace. They have supported one another throughout their lives, celebrating victories, standing together during challenges, and encouraging one another to continue growing. Today, all of Mary’s siblings hold leadership roles, which she views as a reflection of the love, discipline, expectations, and encouragement their parents instilled in them.

Her husband, Carlos, is another essential part of Mary’s support system. She describes him as her rock, best friend, and biggest cheerleader. He has supported her through challenges, celebrated her accomplishments, and consistently believed in her.

Their story even began with a connection that stretches back to childhood. Carlos was Mary’s neighbor while they were growing up, although it took 32 years for him to finally tell her that he had a crush on her. Fortunately, the timing was right, and the rest became their shared history.

Family and relationships remain a cornerstone of Mary’s life, helping her maintain perspective as she navigates the demands of leadership.

She places a high value on balance, recognizing that professional achievement should never come at the expense of the people and relationships that matter most. One of the lessons she has learned throughout her career is the importance of setting healthy boundaries and taking care of herself so she can continue showing up fully for others.

Outside of work, Mary enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She also loves cooking, experimenting with new recipes, and creating meals that bring people together. Reading and lifelong learning are equally important to her. Whether she is exploring a leadership book, listening to a self-development audiobook, or enjoying a fantasy novel, Mary believes there is always something new to discover.

At the heart of Mary’s philosophy is resilience.

Life has presented her with challenges and hardships, but she has chosen not to view herself as a victim. Instead, she considers herself a survivor. Those experiences have shaped her perspective, strengthening her perseverance, empathy, compassion, and integrity.

They have also helped her connect with people on a deeper level.

For Mary, leadership is not ultimately about a job title, organizational hierarchy, or position. It is about service. It is about helping people succeed, creating an environment where people feel valued, and leaving people better than they were found.

As she continues her career with Greater Texas Credit Union, Mary remains committed to learning, mentoring, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of the people around her. She understands that the HR profession will continue evolving alongside technology, changing employee expectations, and new generations entering the workforce. Yet she believes one thing will remain constant: people will always need to feel respected, heard, and supported.

Mary intends to keep providing that support.

Her career serves as a testament to what can happen when resilience meets opportunity—and when someone is willing to believe in another person’s potential. Having benefited from mentors who walked beside her and encouraged her to pursue possibilities she could not always see herself, Mary now strives to do the same for others. Her goal is simple but significant: to continue growing as a leader, wife, friend, and professional while helping others recognize their own potential.

For Mary, that is more than a career in human resources. It is a way to create a lasting legacy—one built on integrity, compassion, growth, and the belief that when people are supported and empowered, they can accomplish far more than they ever imagined.
