Court Administration Oversight Change: Longtime Managers Promoted to Top Leadership Positions

Aaron V. Hood was appointed by the Indiana Supreme Court in late June to take the position of Chief Administrative Officer. The CAO oversees the Indiana Office of Judicial Administration and its many agencies. Since January, Hood has served as interim CAO, continuing the office’s established culture of professionalism, accountability, and innovation, while maintaining effective operations.

Chief Justice Loretta Rush, who led a multifaceted national search to fill the position, is confident in Hood’s ability to serve as CAO. “Aaron is a proven leader. Aaron Hood brings a decade of service to the Court, most recently as Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer, ensuring transparency, compliance, and effective intergovernmental collaboration. He has extensive leadership experience in city, county, and state government, including at the Indiana Department of Transportation, and has represented Indiana nationally on the National Center for State Courts’ State Judicial Branch Finance and HR Officers committee and locally through the Association of Government Accountants Board of Directors.

The Court also named Kathryn Dolan as the Deputy CAO. Dolan has served as the Court’s Chief Public Information Officer for 18 years. She is a 2020 recipient of the NCSC’s Distinguished Service Award and a past president of its Conference of Court Public Information Officers.

“Serving the people of Indiana through the courts has shaped who I am,” said Dolan. “I’m committed to maintaining consistent policies, communicating effectively, and ensuring leaders have the tools they need to guide daily operations.”

Under the direction of the Chief Justice, the CAO is responsible for leading OJA, which supports the efficient administration of all statewide court initiatives and entities that operate under the direction of the Chief Justice and the Supreme Court. The office includes more than 240 lawyers, licensed professionals, administrative staff, and technology experts, and serves as a vital link to Indiana’s nearly 600 judicial officers and more than 18,000 attorneys.
